(Titusville, FL) - Tom Feeney (R-Oviedo) today released the following statement after learning that Fidel Castro will resign:

"Since New Years Day 1959, Fidel Castro and his brutal communist regime have stifled freedom, jailed and tortured dissidents, and murdered political opponents. Today, millions of exiled freedom-loving Cuban Americans celebrate as Castro vacates the 'presidency.' They hope this brutal dictatorship soon ends.

"Just as America’s left-wing intelligentsia and media celebrated the Bolshevik Revolution while ignoring Stalin’s Gulag and deliberate starvation of millions of Ukrainians, the American Left has often flattered Castro while turning a blind eye to his regime’s brutality. Government collectivism, in the name of leftist utopian dreams, always leads to brutality, oppression, and murder.

"America and our allies should do everything to undermine Cuba’s current regime and bring the blessings of liberty to the Cuban people,” said Feeney.
