Rep. Tom Feeney's Reaction to the President's Final State of the Union Address
(Washington, D.C.) - Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Representative Tom Feeney (R-Oviedo) this evening released this statement following President Bush's final State of the Union Address:
"In addition to outlining his goals for his final year in office, tonight the President also discussed America's accomplishments over the last seven years and also the uncertainty we face heading into 2009. I applaud the President's pledge this evening to veto any appropriations bill that does not cut the number and cost of earmarks in half and his plan to direct Federal agencies to ignore any future earmark that is not voted on by Congress. I was also excited that Laura Bush invited Senior Airman Diane Lopes from Patrick Air Force Base to sit with her during the speech.
"While we have accomplished much over the last decade, right now, many hardworking families rightfully have anxiety as they face the burden of high gas prices, soaring insurance costs and property taxes. It is clear that America's leaders must tackle this year's uncertainty head-on and stay away from Band-Aid fixes. It's clear what America doesn't need: more burdensome new regulations and built in Democratic tax increases that may well lead to a 'Pelosi' recession.
"Hardworking American taxpayers and future generations deserve real, long-term solutions versus the knee-jerk reactions they typically see from Congress. They also deserve more transparency in their government, more money put permanently back in their pockets, and a nation protected by secure borders," said Feeney.
