Feeney Receives the Medicare Choices Leadership Award
(Oviedo, FL) - U.S. Rep. Tom Feeney (R-Oviedo) received the Medicare Choices Leadership Award from the Coalition for Medicare Choices. The award references the 29,818 seniors impacted by Rep. Tom Feeney's principled vote against the Children's Health and Medicare Protection Act to protect those enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans in his district.
"I am proud to receive this award from the Coalition for Medicare Choices for my vote to protect choice in healthcare for Central Florida and Space Coast seniors.
"This irresponsible bill would have cost taxpayers over $105 billion during the next five years. In order to pay for this bill, Democrats planned to slash funding for free-market Medicare programs. Fortunately, this covert legislation that took one giant leap toward socialized medicine was defeated.
"I will always work to ensure seniors have choice in their healthcare plans and access to free-market Medicare programs. Central Florida residents know from my proven and principled leadership that I will defend their hard-earned tax dollars while offering a solution that benefits all parties impacted: children, hardworking taxpayers, and seniors," said Feeney.
From the Coalition for Medicare Choices:
On August 1, the US House of Representatives voted to cut more than $150 billion over 10 years from the Medicare Advantage program, which covers more than 8 million seniors across the country. If this bill becomes law, nearly 3 million seniors could lose their Medicare Advantage coverage, while millions more would face benefit cuts and higher out-of-pocket health care costs.
The Coalition for Medicare Choices opposes this legislation. We believe that the House-passed bill will have a devastating impact on Medicare Advantage beneficiaries, 49 percent of whom have incomes of less than $20,000 per year.
