Berkeley's Hateful Valentine Insults our Brave Men and Women in Uniform
Tom Feeney Joins Colleagues to Introduce the Military Freedom Act to Punish the City of Berkeley's Irresponsible Act
(Washington, D.C.) - U.S. Representative Tom Feeney (R-Oviedo) today will join his colleagues at 3:30 in HC-9 to condemn the City of Berkeley's recent vote to tell the Marines to close their recruiting station in the city. Tom Feeney will join Louie Gohmert (R-TX) and war hero, Sam Johnson (R-TX) today at a press conference to introduce the Military Freedom Act to deny Federal funds for any state, city, county, or other political subdivision of a state that prohibits or unduly restricts the establishment or operation of a military recruiting office.
"I was shocked and outraged to hear of Berkeley's decision to label the Marine Corps Recruiting Station as 'uninvited and unwelcome intruders.' This defamation is unacceptable and will not go without consequence.
"I want to thank my colleague, Rep. Louie Gohmert for introducing today's legislation that will prevent future defamation against our brave men and women in uniform. The legislation will block funding for those cities, states, or counties who choose to insult our troops by preventing military recruiting to protect American families.
"Speaker Pelosi, a native Californian herself, would do right to bring this bill to the floor for a vote immediately," said Feeney.
Rep. Tom Feeney is also a sponsor of the Semper Fi Act (H.R. 5222) to rescind funding for the City of Berkeley, CA and transfer those funds to the Marines. He has also signed a letter to the President asking for the immediate rescission of funds appropriated for the City of Berkeley in the Omnibus Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2008
